Overview
What Xirp is
Xirp is a proprietary desktop app created by Spotify to make many coding-agent sessions manageable from one control surface. It does not replace Claude Code, Codex, or Gemini; it detects their installed CLIs and organizes the terminals, projects, files, Git changes, skills, rules, and session states around them.
Each parallel task can run in its own Git worktree, which reduces collisions when several agents work on one repository. Sessions persist when the app closes, can be viewed together in a grid, and can switch among supported agents without abandoning the working directory.
Xirp also connects optionally to Spotify Portal. That connection can give agents organizational context from the software catalog and Workspace, then let a user manually upload a completed transcript so teammates and later agents can resume with the same context.
The current product is a free beta for macOS and requires a work email plus an account for at least one supported coding agent. Spotify's launch article describes much larger-scale internal use, but the public beta documentation says server deployment and remote SSH sessions are not currently supported.

Step 1
Join the beta
Use a work email, download the macOS app, and sign in with a Spotify Technology account.
Step 2
Connect a coding agent
Install and authenticate Claude Code, Codex, or Gemini through its own native CLI and permissions.
Step 3
Add a local project
Register a repository or folder on the Mac; Xirp keeps the files local and uses the folder as the working directory.
Step 4
Start isolated sessions
Give each task a specific outcome and use a separate Git worktree when multiple agents may change the same repository.
Step 5
Review and share deliberately
Inspect diffs and agent actions, then review any transcript for secrets or restricted data before manually uploading it to Portal.

Xirp pricing and free plan
Spotify currently offers Xirp as a free beta and says a Portal instance is included with beta access. Users must separately install and authenticate a supported coding agent, so model or subscription costs from Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google still apply. Post-beta Xirp and Portal pricing has not been published.

- Xirp does not supply the coding agents; users must install, authenticate, configure, and pay for each supported CLI separately.
- The product is proprietary and changing quickly during beta.
- Agent permissions and sandbox behavior remain controlled by each native CLI, so autonomous modes can still make risky file, shell, or network changes.
- Uploaded transcripts can include the full conversation, tool calls, agent reasoning, file changes, paths, and code excerpts, and Xirp does not redact secrets before upload.

What is Spotify Xirp?

Is Xirp free?
Xirp is currently offered as a free beta, with a Portal instance included. The supported coding agents still require their own accounts and may have separate subscription or usage costs.
Do I need Spotify Portal to use Xirp?

Which coding agents does Xirp support?

Bottom line
Our Xirp verdict
Xirp is a thoughtful local command center for Mac users who already work with multiple coding-agent CLIs. Its worktree isolation and Portal context are genuinely differentiated, but the beta's platform limits, separate provider costs, and unredacted transcript uploads make disciplined permissions and review essential.
