Windsurf 2.0: historical overview
Windsurf 2.0 was the April 2026 release that turned Windsurf into a control center for local and cloud coding agents. The Windsurf editor has since been rebranded as Devin Desktop, so this page is a historical guide to that release and its current successor.

What Windsurf 2.0 was
Windsurf 2.0 launched on April 15, 2026 with an Agent Command Center for monitoring multiple local and cloud agents from a Kanban-style view. It also embedded Cognition's Devin cloud agent directly in the editor.
The product did not simply disappear. Official documentation now calls the editor Devin Desktop and describes the old Windsurf package as a transitional package that continues to update existing installations. New buyers should evaluate Devin Desktop rather than treating Windsurf 2.0 as a separately maintained product.
