The current Magnific Photoshop plugin is much broader than the original upscaling extension. From a panel inside Photoshop, users can generate images and video, browse earlier Magnific creations, search the stock library, upscale, remove backgrounds, relight or restyle an image, change the camera angle, and enhance skin.
Freepik has been renamed Magnific, so the plugin now uses the same Magnific account, history, and credit balance as the wider creative suite. The extension is free to download, but every generation in a plugin consumes account credits—even when a web-plan feature is described as unlimited. It also needs an internet connection because processing happens through Magnific rather than entirely on the local machine.
This is best treated as a cloud-AI bridge inside Photoshop, not a replacement for layers, masks, Smart Objects, and nondestructive retouching. Generated detail can be plausible but false, and tools such as relighting, skin enhancement, reframing, and creative upscaling may change identity, product shape, text, or evidence.
