What Kimi K2 Thinking was
Kimi K2 Thinking was Moonshot AI's long-reasoning and tool-use version of Kimi K2. The 1-trillion-parameter mixture-of-experts model activated 32 billion parameters per token, supported a 256K context window, and was trained for long sequences of reasoning and tool calls.
Moonshot has discontinued the hosted K2 series and recommends Kimi K3 for current API work. Developers can still download K2 Thinking under the Modified MIT License, but self-hosting a model of this size requires substantial infrastructure and ongoing engineering.
