Overview
What Glitter is
Glitter reduces the duplicate work of recording a walkthrough and then manually writing the same procedure. A creator starts the desktop app or Chromium extension, performs the task while optionally narrating, and receives both a video and a scannable guide with captured steps and generated text.
The desktop recorder works across Mac and Windows applications, while the extension is suited to browser workflows. Glitter can also ingest an existing recording from a meeting, mobile screen capture, or real-world process and identify likely steps. Uploaded-video conversion is a metered feature; ordinary screen recording does not consume credits on a paid plan.
The editor supports reordering and rewriting steps, screenshot annotation and blur, transcript-based edits, short video-clip steps, version history, guide translation, and playbooks. Published work can be shared by link, embedded, copied into another system, or exported in formats that depend on the plan, including PDF, HTML, Markdown, Word, PowerPoint, and SCORM.
The biggest operational risk is the recording itself. A process capture can expose passwords, API keys, customer records, health or financial data, private messages, browser tabs, notifications, and internal URLs. Creators should use mock data, close unrelated apps, stop password managers from autofilling visibly, and verify every screenshot and share permission before publication.
Glitter states that guides are private by default, content is not used for AI training, data is stored in U.S. data centers, and the service is SOC 2 Type II compliant. How the Glitter workflow works
Step 1
Choose the process and owner
Document one stable, repeatable outcome with a named subject-matter owner, intended audience, prerequisites, completion criteria, review date, and rollback or escalation path.
Step 2
Prepare a safe environment
Use a test account and synthetic records; close email, chat, password managers, unrelated tabs, and notifications; hide bookmarks and internal URLs; and remove credentials, tokens, personal data, or confidential client information.
Step 3
Record and narrate deliberately
Perform the process at a steady pace, say why a step matters, call out decisions and warnings, and pause after important actions. Use the desktop app for non-browser software and the extension for a contained web flow.
Step 4
Edit the generated draft
Correct the sequence, crop or replace screenshots, remove mistakes and dead time, rewrite ambiguous instructions, add prerequisites and expected results, and ensure every button or field name matches the current interface.
Step 5
Redact before upload or sharing
Prefer mock data. If sensitive content cannot be avoided, use an approved plan and pre-upload on-device blur, then inspect every frame. Ordinary after-capture blur does not undo data that may already have been uploaded.
Step 6
Test with a new reader
Have someone unfamiliar with the process complete it from the guide alone. Record failures, missing permissions, branching cases, accessibility issues, and outdated UI, then revise.
Step 7
Publish with narrow access
Keep the guide private until approved, choose link or embed permissions deliberately, disable downloads when needed, add an owner and review date, and verify that copied or exported versions preserve redaction.

Maintain the SOP
Use version history and review reminders, update individual changed steps, monitor shared links and embeds, revoke obsolete access, and archive or delete documentation when the underlying process is retired.
