Overview

What Agentic Trading is

Robinhood Agentic Trading is a brokerage feature, not an AI investment adviser. It gives a compatible third-party agent access to Robinhood's Trading MCP server and a dedicated Agentic account. The agent can research markets, inspect portfolios, build watchlists, preview orders, and place real trades according to the user's instructions.

The dedicated account is the central safety boundary. Users choose how much money to reserve in it, receive trade notifications, can review proposed actions, and can disconnect the agent from the Robinhood app. The agent can place trades without a new confirmation when a user has authorized that behavior, so the boundary limits the funded account—not the possibility of rapid or mistaken trading within it.

Robinhood's disclosures are unusually direct: the company does not control, supervise, recommend, monitor, or audit the third-party agent. Users assume the investment and data risk, including the possibility of losing the entire amount. The connected provider also receives broad read access across all Robinhood accounts, while its authority to place orders is limited to the Agentic account.

Use cases

Who Agentic Trading is best for

The strongest fit depends on the job you need the product to complete, not the size of its feature list.

Small, controlled experiments

Experienced users who deliberately isolate a limited amount of capital and want to test an agent-assisted strategy.

Custom market workflows

Builders who want an MCP client to combine Robinhood portfolio, quote, fundamental, technical, earnings, watchlist, and order tools.

Human-reviewed trading

Users who keep confirmation enabled, preview every order, and treat the agent as an interface rather than an autonomous money manager.

Dedicated-account automation

Strategies that benefit from separating agent-controlled funds and activity from a primary investing account.

Capabilities

Core Agentic Trading features

1

MCP connection

Connect a compatible agent to Robinhood's official Trading MCP server and authenticate through Robinhood.

2

Dedicated Agentic account

Fund a separate self-directed individual investing account reserved for the agent's orders.

3

Equities, options, and crypto

The current order tools cover long equities, options, and supported Robinhood Crypto pairs, subject to account approval and location rules.

4

Portfolio and P&L data

The agent can inspect buying power, portfolio value, realized profit and loss, trade history, positions, balances, and account information.

5

Market research tools

Available tools cover quotes, OHLCV history, fundamentals, financial statements, Level 2 data, technical indicators, earnings, indexes, and scans.

6

Order preview and execution

The MCP offers separate review or preview and order-placement tools, along with status and cancellation tools.

7

Watchlist management

Agents can inspect, create, rename, follow, and update watchlists and scans.

8

Per-trade notifications

Robinhood surfaces Agentic account activity and sends notifications when the agent trades.

9

Disconnect control

The MCP connection can be revoked from the Robinhood app at any time.

10

Multiple client options

Robinhood publishes setup instructions for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, Codex, Codex CLI, Cursor, Grok, and generic MCP-compatible platforms.

Process

How the Agentic Trading workflow works

  1. Step 1

    Decide whether automation is appropriate

Assume an agent can make an incorrect real-money trade and decide whether any amount of capital should be exposed before connecting it.

  2. Step 2

Choose and secure the AI provider

Review the provider's privacy, retention, account security, prompt controls, model behavior, and subscription costs.

  3. Step 3

    Connect the official MCP

Add Robinhood's Trading MCP endpoint in the chosen client and complete authentication on a desktop device.

  4. Step 4

    Open the dedicated account

A primary individual investing account in good standing is required before onboarding the separate Agentic account.

  5. Step 5

    Fund a deliberately small budget

Transfer only an amount whose complete loss would be acceptable; do not treat account separation as protection against bad trades.

  6. Step 6

    Start with read-only analysis

Test account queries, quotes, data freshness, reasoning, and symbol handling before allowing any order tool.

  7. Step 7

    Require previews and confirmation

Use review tools, limit orders where appropriate, explicit position-size caps, and per-trade approval while validating behavior.

  8. Step 8

    Monitor every action

Check notifications, order status, open positions, P&L, duplicate actions, tax lots, and whether the agent followed the exact instruction.

  9. Step 9

    Disconnect on any anomaly

Revoke the MCP connection and separately inspect or cancel open orders; disconnecting cannot undo an executed trade.

Cost

Agentic Trading pricing and free plan

Robinhood does not publish a separate subscription charge for Agentic Trading. Standard account, regulatory, exchange, options, crypto, and third-party AI provider costs can still apply.

Agentic account access

No separate fee listed

The MCP feature uses a dedicated Robinhood self-directed investing account.

  • Requires an eligible primary individual investing account
  • The amount deposited remains real investment capital at risk
  • Robinhood's general fee schedule still applies

Stocks and ETFs

Commission-free

Robinhood does not charge commissions for stocks and ETFs.

  • Regulatory transaction and trading-activity fees can apply to sells
  • ADR and other product-specific fees can apply
  • Market spread and execution price still affect results

Options

Product and regulatory fees may apply

Stock and ETF options are advertised as commission-free, but not cost-free.

  • Exchange, clearing, regulatory, and contract fees may apply
  • Options access requires approval
  • Complex strategies can lose the entire investment or more than the initial amount

Crypto

Execution-based pricing

Crypto pricing and available pairs are shown through Robinhood Crypto.

  • Requires a corresponding Robinhood Crypto account and updated agreement
  • Not available for agentic trading in every state, including New York
  • Crypto is not FDIC insured or SIPC protected

Third-party AI agent

Separate

The connected Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, Grok, or other service may require its own plan.

  • Pricing and usage limits depend on the provider
  • The provider receives Robinhood data under its own terms
  • Agent availability and model changes are outside Robinhood's control

Assessment

Agentic Trading strengths and limitations

Where it stands out

  • Uses an official Robinhood MCP endpoint rather than unofficial browser automation.
  • Restricts order placement to a separately funded Agentic account.
  • Offers explicit order-review tools before execution.
  • Covers portfolio, market, fundamentals, technicals, earnings, watchlists, scans, and trade management in one connection.
  • Compatible with multiple major AI clients and generic MCP platforms.
  • Robinhood publishes unusually clear warnings about agent, investment, and data risk.
  • Users can monitor activity in Robinhood and revoke the agent connection.

What to consider

  • An authorized agent can place real trades without asking for confirmation on each order.
  • The entire amount in the Agentic account can be lost, and some options strategies can create losses beyond the initial investment.
  • Robinhood does not control, supervise, recommend, monitor, or audit the third-party AI agent.
  • AI agents can misunderstand instructions, use incomplete or stale information, repeat actions, or behave unpredictably.
  • The agent receives read access to all Robinhood accounts, including account numbers, balances, positions, transactions, watchlists, and scans—not only the Agentic account.
  • Once data reaches the AI provider, it leaves Robinhood's security environment and follows that provider's terms.
  • Disconnecting may not be instantaneous enough to prevent a fast action and does not reverse filled trades or automatically cancel every open order.
  • Current trading is limited to long equities, options, and supported crypto; margin borrowing is not enabled.
  • Limited margin only permits use of unsettled stock and option sale proceeds and does not provide leverage.
  • Agentic crypto cannot transfer, stake, or lend assets and is unavailable in restricted states including New York.
  • Frequent or poorly controlled trading can create taxes, regulatory fees, slippage, and losses even if the AI provider itself is inexpensive.
  • No backtest, simulation, or model benchmark can guarantee future performance.

What is Robinhood Agentic Trading?

It is a Robinhood brokerage feature that lets a third-party AI agent access market and account tools and place trades in a dedicated Agentic account through MCP.

Yes. Robinhood says users can review actions first, but an agent can place orders without per-trade confirmation if the user has instructed or authorized it to do so.

What can the agent trade?

The current tools support long equities, options, and supported crypto pairs, subject to account permissions, product eligibility, and state restrictions.

Can the agent trade in my primary Robinhood account?

No. Its order-placement authority is limited to the dedicated Agentic account.

What Robinhood data can the agent read?

Robinhood says it can read all Robinhood accounts, account numbers, positions, balances, transactions, order history, watchlists, and scans.

Which AI assistants work with it?

Robinhood publishes instructions for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, Codex, Codex CLI, Cursor, and Grok, and says other MCP-compatible platforms can connect.

Does Robinhood monitor the AI agent?

No. Robinhood says it does not control, supervise, monitor, recommend, or audit third-party agents.

Is Agentic Trading free?

Robinhood does not list a separate fee for the Agentic feature, but standard brokerage, regulatory, exchange, options, crypto, and third-party AI-provider costs may apply.

Can I use margin?

Agentic accounts can use limited margin for unsettled stock and option sale proceeds, but Robinhood says margin borrowing and leverage are not currently enabled.

Can the agent transfer or stake crypto?

No. It can place supported crypto trades but cannot transfer, stake, or lend crypto.

How do I stop the agent?

Disconnect the Trading MCP from the Robinhood app, then inspect and cancel any open orders separately. Filled trades cannot be undone.

Is this investment advice?

No. This page explains the product and its risks. Robinhood describes the Agentic account as self-directed and states that users are responsible for every investment decision and trade.

Bottom line

Our Agentic Trading verdict

Robinhood Agentic Trading is a technically significant bridge between general-purpose AI agents and a regulated brokerage account, with a sensible dedicated-account boundary and transparent disclosures. It is still a high-risk product: the provider sees broad financial data, Robinhood does not supervise the agent, and one ambiguous instruction can become a real trade. The safest practical use is a small funded account, read-only testing first, mandatory order previews, strict limits, and continuous human monitoring.
