Overview

What Salesforce Agentforce is

Salesforce Agentforce is the company’s platform for building and deploying AI agents for customer and employee workflows. Agents can draw on Salesforce records and knowledge, and call actions configured through tools such as Flow, Apex and MuleSoft. Agentforce Builder provides a low-code and code-based place to define jobs, actions, data sources and testing.

A useful implementation starts with a bounded task such as answering a service question or updating a CRM record, then defines the permitted action, knowledge source, identity and escalation path. Salesforce sells several commercial models, including Flex Credits, conversations and per-user add-ons. The platform’s “free” Foundations entry should not be read as a free production rollout across every channel and connected data source.

Use cases

Who Salesforce Agentforce is best for

The strongest fit depends on the job you need the product to complete, not the size of its feature list.

Salesforce service organizations

Automate well-defined support steps using CRM records and approved knowledge with human escalation.

Sales operations teams

Provide employee agents for updates and research when the CRM already holds trusted account context.

Enterprises with governed integrations

Use existing Flow, Apex or MuleSoft investments to expose tested actions to agents.

Capabilities

Core Salesforce Agentforce features

1

Agentforce Builder

Build, test and observe agents using Salesforce tools and configured knowledge.

2

CRM grounding

Agents can use Salesforce data and knowledge articles with business context rather than a generic model prompt alone.

3

Action integration

Configured actions can invoke Flow, Apex and APIs through MuleSoft or other connected systems.

4

Templates

Salesforce lists prebuilt patterns for service, employee, campaign and sales use cases.

5

Consumption tracking

Digital Wallet and the pricing calculator help estimate and monitor qualifying usage.

Process

How the Salesforce Agentforce workflow works

  1. Step 1

    Choose a constrained job

Define the user, allowed question or task, success condition, and when a person takes over.

  2. Step 2

    Connect trusted context

Select CRM records, knowledge and external systems while enforcing access and data-quality rules.

  3. Step 3

    Configure and test actions

Build the agent, simulate edge cases and validate its write permissions and escalation behavior.

  4. Step 4

    Launch with usage controls

Monitor action traces, outcome quality, Flex Credit or conversation consumption and customer complaints.

Assessment

Salesforce Agentforce strengths and limitations

Where it stands out

  • Deep access to Salesforce records and configured workflow actions suits CRM-centered operations.
  • Builder supports testing and observability before broad deployment.
  • Several purchase models support different mixes of employee and customer interactions.

What to consider

  • Credit, conversation, seat and connected-data charges make total cost difficult to infer from one headline price.
  • An agent acting on CRM data inherits data-quality and permission problems from the underlying configuration.
  • Meaningful rollout requires testing escalation, wrong answers and unauthorized writes, especially in customer-facing flows.

Questions

Salesforce Agentforce FAQs

What is Agentforce?

Salesforce’s platform for AI agents that answer questions and execute configured actions using business data and workflows.

Is Agentforce free?

Salesforce lists a $0 Foundations starting option, while scaled use is sold through credits, conversations or user licensing and may involve other services.

Can it update Salesforce records?

Yes, if an administrator configures a permitted action and the relevant data and user permissions support the update.

How are Flex Credits used?

Salesforce meters qualifying agent actions against a credit pool; its current pricing page lists 20 credits for a standard Agentforce action.

Bottom line

Our Salesforce Agentforce verdict

Agentforce is strongest where Salesforce is already the system of record and the team can define narrow, auditable jobs. Price a representative workload with its calculator and test permission boundaries and handoffs before scaling.
