Overview

What AgentCard is

A user connects an eligible Mastercard through Mastercard Agent Pay or saves another funding card through Stripe. The agent requests a payment for a named merchant, item, and amount, then receives a one-time credential after any required identity and user approval steps.

AgentCard is payment infrastructure, so KYC, merchant acceptance, spend limits, temporary holds, refunds, and agent permission design matter. Its controls reduce exposure compared with handing an agent a reusable card, but they do not eliminate purchasing mistakes or merchant disputes.

Use cases

Who AgentCard is best for

The strongest fit depends on the job you need the product to complete, not the size of its feature list.

Purchase-capable agents

Developers giving an agent a bounded way to buy domains, credits, SaaS, or other supported online goods.

Scoped payment approvals

Users who want merchant- and amount-specific credentials instead of exposing a reusable card number.

Assessment

AgentCard strengths and limitations

Where it stands out

  • Scopes payment credentials to a purchase instead of exposing a reusable card.
  • Offers agent-native CLI, API, MCP, and skill interfaces.

What to consider

  • Merchant declines, holds, KYC, refunds, and card-network rules can interrupt automated flows.
  • Payment controls reduce risk but do not guarantee that an agent chooses the correct item or merchant.
