Meta is back (again!) with yet another exciting open-source project. Introducing ImageBind, a new AI research model that understands and combines text, audio, visual, movement, thermal, AND depth data.
This integration of multiple data types unlocks new possibilities, including:
Multimodal search capabilities
Embedding-space arithmetic
Converting audio to image generation
Currently, ImageBind is an open-source experiment. However, it holds enormous promise for multimedia search, virtual reality, and robotics in the future. Meta continues to impress the community by open-sourcing these incredible models.
Wendy's is teaming up with Google to develop an AI chatbot that takes your drive-thru orders, aiming to reduce wait times and enhance customer experience.
The "Wendy's FreshAI" will be first tested in a Columbus, Ohio, restaurant in June. Google is customizing its large language model to understand specific Wendy's terminology, such as "Frosty" and "JBC."
Wendy’s says AI will not replace human workers (yet). Instead, employees will monitor the AI-powered drive-thru and assist customers as needed.
We will see how this one pans out. There will be a big challenge here for the chatbot to ignore background noises and customers who change their minds mid-order.

At IBM's Think conference, the company unveiled Watsonx, a new AI platform designed to assist businesses in creating and utilizing AI models.
Despite stiff competition from other tech giants and startups, IBM claims that Watsonx stands out by offering pre-trained enterprise models at cost-effective infrastructure.
Following IBM's recent announcement to replace 7,800 jobs with AI and now the introduction of Watsonx, it's clear that the company is heavily investing in AI. The question remains: Can IBM keep pace with tech giants like Google, Meta, and Microsoft? Only time will tell.
Humane, a secretive new tech startup, revealed a shocking wearable AI device designed to replace smartphones at a recent TED event in Vancouver.
Co-founder Imran Chaudhri demonstrated its features, including:
Projecting caller information onto his hand (yes, like a movie projector)
Suggesting nearby shopping options
Translating sentences Summing up emails and messages
Giving personalized dietary recommendations based on allergies
The device appears as a tiny black puck that slips into your breast pocket, takes over your phone's functions, and employs AI to update you on your day.
While undeniably cool, the demonstration sparks concerns about its practicality, privacy, and integration into everyday life. Chaudhri promises more information from Humane in the "next few months."
