SAKANA AI

The Rundown: Two former top Google AI researchers have launched Sakana AI, a Tokyo startup taking a "swarm" approach of combining multiple smaller AI models.

Key points:

  • The startup will explore coordinating specialized smaller models like swarms in nature to match giant models' capabilities.

  • The approach aims to reduce data needs and costs versus scaling up single huge models.

  • One of the co-founders, Llion Jones, helped pioneer the transformer architecture, the basis for ChatGPT.

Noteworthy: With how transformers revolutionized AI, all eyes are on what these former Google brains can conjure next. Their startup's distributed approach could spark new directions for scaling within the AI arms race.

  • Debunking AI Myths: Is AI just "fancy autocomplete"? Will it really take over the world?

  • The AI Engineer Mindset: How to visualize the huge neural networks that make AI work – so you can explain it to anyone.

  • Inner Workings of ChatGPT: How large language models produce human-like responses – and why it works.

BEFAKE

The Rundown: Kristen Garcia Dumont, the ex-Machine Zone CEO, has founded a new social media app called BeFake to redefine social media. The app lets users snap fantasy versions of themselves using AI-generated images.

Details:

  • It allows users to express creativity beyond just selfies by submitting text prompts to generate visuals.

  • CEO Kristen Garcia Dumont sees it as more authentic self-expression versus the pressure of real pictures.

  • The most creative faux identities gain traction in the app's community, with users able to share images from prompts and react to their favorites.

Our thoughts: The founder of BeFake is no joke, with some of the top-grossing mobile games globally under her belt. We’ll be watching this app closely as it might play a pivotal role in the widespread integration of AI into social media.

AI TRAINING

While you might be familiar with ChatGPT, don't overlook Claude 2— a free rival that packs some serious power. Try these prompts:

Summarize LONG articles. Claude 2 can accept prompts with up to 100,000 tokens compared to ChatGPT’s 8,192.

Prompt: "[paste LONG article] Give me the key bullet points from this abstract."

Compare and contrast documents: Claude’s features include the ability to upload multiple files at once.

Prompt: "[upload multiple files] Summarize the key information from both these files and then tell me the differences between both abstracts."

Check out some additional helpful prompts here.

While Claude is technically only available in the US/UK, there are some simple workarounds:

  1. Use a VPN or download Opera browser (has a built-in VPN)

  2. Use Poe.com
