PLUS: ChatGPT goes to court

Happy Tuesday!

We asked AI Eminem what’s in store today. Here’s what we got:

Nvidia's on fire, reaching that trillion-dollar desire, while lawyers get burned by ChatGPT's liar, and Bengio spits fire, screaming for regulation to avoid AI's dire.

In today's rundown:

  • 👁️‍🗨️ Nvidia reminds us why they’re coming for #1

  • 💼 ChatGPT goes to court… and lies

As covered last week, California-based chip manufacturer Nvidia has been swinging for the fences in their recent developments, approaching a $1 Trillion market cap.

Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang kicked off COMPUTEX Taipei—Asia’s largest computer tech trade show, with some incredible announcements:

  • The full production of the GForce RTX 4080 Ti GPU for gamers (really big graphics cards)

  • Nvidia Avatar Cloud Engine (ACE) for Games (AI helper for game devs, specifically in NPCs)

  • The success of the Nvidia Cuda computing model (allows devs to use powerful graphics cards to speed up their programs)

  • Production of the HGX H100 GPU server (really big computer for AI)

  • Nvidia’s partnership with SoftBank for its distributed data centers in Japan (gave them Superchips to host their own AI data)

  • Nvidia’s partnership with WPP, the worlds biggest advertising agency (using AI to generate ad creatives)

This all may seem like tech jumbo, and it is — but it’s precisely this tech jumbo that has propelled Nvidia to heights most of us never saw coming.

A lawyer's reliance on ChatGPT for a court filing has backfired due to the AI's inclination to… invent facts.

Attorney Steven A. Schwartz submitted a brief, prepared with ChatGPT's assistance, in a lawsuit against Avianca, a Colombian airline.

Unfortunately for him, the AI-generated research included non-existent court cases — Avianca's legal team discovered the fabrications when they couldn't find the cited cases in legal databases.

So, good news lawyers: the robots aren’t taking over your jobs (yet).

Yoshua Bengio, a leading figure in AI, emphasized the urgent need for governments to regulate AI technology to prevent potential risks.

Bengio warns that AI systems rapidly approach human-level intelligence, posing unforeseen dangers.

He urges scientists, citizens, experts, and governments to work together to understand potential negative scenarios of AI and highlights the risk of technology like ChatGPT “propagating disinformation.”

Bengio even went as far as to suggest making it illegal to impersonate humans — bad news for those troll farms (and ourselves, as you saw in the intro of this newsletter…)
