PLUS: UAE's Falcon 40B is now open-sourced

Happy Thursday!

Here’s a question - assuming the robots become sentient and take over… does that mean they have to choose where to live?

We’re thinking Barbados.

The Technology Innovation Institute's (TII) Falcon 40B, the UAE's leading open-source AI model, is now available for commercial and research use without any royalties.

Falcon 40B has achieved the top position on Hugging Face's leaderboard for large language models, surpassing competitors like Meta's LLaMA and Stability AI's StableLM.

This move enables public and private sector entities to benefit from faster project starts, flexible software development processes, community support, and easier license management.

Side note — the model was trained on 1 trillion tokens… with a ‘t.’

In a surprising move, the Japanese government has announced that it will not enforce copyrights on data used in AI training.

The decision aims to propel Japan's progress in AI technology, which the government believes has been hindered by copyright concerns, particularly related to anime and visual media.

While some artists and creators express worries about the devaluation of their work, the academic and business sectors are urging the government to embrace the nation's relaxed data laws to drive Japan's dominance in AI.

Nvidia hits a trillion, UAE open sources their model, and now Japan is jumping on board? It’s the AI Olympics!

Instacart has announced the launch of a new AI search tool called "Ask Instacart," powered by OpenAI's ChatGPT.

This tool aims to assist customers by providing personalized recommendations for their shopping questions, offering product recommendations, information on food preparation, dietary considerations, and more.

By introducing this AI-powered search experience, Instacart aims to become an all-in-one solution for food preparation and shopping, eliminating the need for users to perform external searches for recommendations.

Let’s hope the recommendations aren’t time-based… those 1 am orders aren’t necessarily our fondest moments.
