INFLECTION AI

The Rundown: Inflection AI, known for creating a ‘personal AI for everyone,’ has developed an AI supercomputer equipped with 22,000 NVIDIA H100 AI GPUs to enhance its Inflection-1 model.

Details:

  • Despite the high demand and scarcity of H100 GPUs, Inflection AI was able to acquire 22,000 units (currently worth approximately $40,000 each)

  • NVIDIA, a potential investor in Inflection AI, possibly facilitated the company's access to such a large number of GPUs

  • The supercomputer will contain 700 four-node racks of Intel Xeon CPUs

  • The supercomputer will contain 700 four-node racks of Intel Xeon CPUs

  • The supercomputer will utilize an astounding 31 Mega-Watts of power

  • Inflection AI has raised $1.5 billion ($4 billion valuation)

Why it matters: Inflection anticipates that through this supercomputer, the AI model "Inflection 1" is expected to improve significantly, especially in coding.

Elon Musk, however, thinks it ‘won’t be long’ before are many other supercomputer clusters at this scale.

TOGETHER WITH AE

The Rundown: Developing innovative, high-impact custom software or AI/ML solutions is challenging. But AE is putting an end to that.

Now, you can work with AE's world-class team to accomplish your goals faster than the competition.

When AE makes the biggest impact:

  • Creating a minimum viable product

  • Conducting an enterprise digital transformation

  • Developing a custom AI/ML solution

OPENAI

The Rundown: OpenAI is dedicating 20% of its secured compute to address the superintelligence alignment problem over the next four years and assembling a new Superalignment team.

Details:

  • The team will be co-led by Ilya Sutskever and Jan Leike (some of the smartest AI researchers in the world)

  • Superintelligence can help solve global issues, but it also holds risks, including human disempowerment and extinction

  • The goal of the team is to build a human-level automated alignment researcher which can be used to scale efforts and align superintelligence

  • The team will share its research and, alongside aligning superintelligent AI, continue improving the safety of current models and mitigating other AI risks

Why it matters: 20% of compute for ‘AGI’ alignment is a big deal. OpenAI has made it clear they recognize the risks of AI and are taking the necessary proactive initiatives.

CHATGPT

The Rundown: For a while, it seemed that ChatGPT’s growth would never slow. However, we’ve finally reached that point, with traffic declining by approximately 10 percent from May to June 2023.

Details:

  • Since the end of November 2022, ChatGPT grew from zero to more than 1.5 billion visits in March 2023

  • Visits to OpenAI’s developer site increased by 3.1 percent from May to June

  • The release of plugins and web browsing in May did not result in explosive growth

Bottom line: The growth had to slow down at some point. As AI slightly cools off for the summer (ironic), it gives us time to prepare for what’s coming.
