Some of the leading figures in the industry are sounding the alarm about the potential dangers of AI, comparing the risks to pandemics and nuclear wars.

In a statement released by the Center for AI Safety, over 350 executives, researchers, and engineers in the AI field (like, you know, the guy who runs ChatGPT) emphasized the need to prioritize mitigating the risk of AI leading to human extinction.

Concerns about AI's potential for spreading misinformation, eliminating jobs, and causing societal disruptions have been growing, and the urgency to address these concerns has skyrocketed as adoption ramps up.

If only someone were to have seen this coming… (we did, we wrote about it yesterday).

Nvidia got a taste of a $1 Trillion evaluation yesterday, driven by the increasing demand for generative AI tools in the tech industry (but you already know that, because you read The Rundown 😉)

Although the stock price dipped to $401.11 by the market close on Monday, temporarily taking Nvidia out of the trillion-dollar club, the company's strong performance in the last quarter, with over $2 billion in profit, contributed to its valuation milestone.

Nvidia's chips play a crucial role as a key supplier for companies looking to incorporate AI into their products, and the company’s recent Computex 2023 keynote showcased a tidal wave of announcements for new tech.

The Pew Research Center recently surveyed American adults' experiences with ChatGPT. And the results were pretty surprising…

The study reveals that while a majority of adults in the US are aware of ChatGPT, only a small percentage have actually used it — 14%, to be exact.

Most notable, however, is what those small percentage of adults are actually using the chatbot for:

  • 19% for entertainment

  • 14% for learning

  • 12% for work

So, while we sit here and devise plans to keep ChatGPT from taking all of our jobs, we have to wonder… how much of an echo-chamber are we really in?
